The current hype surrounding AI – which is basically just resource-intensive computing based on data mining and brute force - makes us forget that there are completely different, much more ‘efficient’ and enjoyable forms of intelligence: This panel centres on the question of how plants sense and process, decide and act.
Biography
Yvonne Volkart is PI of the SNSF research project Plants_Intelligence. Learning Like a Plant (2022-25). She is head of research and lecturer in art theory and cultural media studies at the Institute Art Gender Nature at the FHNW Academy of Art and Design Basel. Her monograph Technologies of Care. From Sensing Technologies to an Aesthetics of Attention was published by Zurich: diaphanes 2023.
